This one is just about as simple as it gets. Coconut Oil is a powerhouse and this has been backed up with well over 1,500 studies proving coconut oil to be one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Are you consuming it? If not, then why not?
Coconut by itself is highly nutritious. It is filled with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. In fact, it is classified as a functional food due to its nutrient content. However, the oil is the prize because of its healing properties. It is used extensively in traditional medicine among Asian and Pacific populations who consider coconut oil to be the cure for all illnesses.
The list of benefits is an extensive one but for example, coconut oil is filled with healthy fats called medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), these unique fats include Caprylic acid, Lauric acid, and Capric acid. These are easy to digest, not stored as fat, are both anti-microbial and anti-fungal, and help the body create energy (Gunnars, 2013). On a similar note, Monolaurin is a dietary supplement derived from coconut oil. It is used effectively to fight bacterial, viral, and fungal infections as well.
According to medical research, coconut oil benefits the body by supplying energy to the brain without the need for insulin to process glucose into energy and may help repair brain function; it increases healthy cholesterol and helps convert bad cholesterol into good cholesterol; it can help clear up and heal urinary (UTI) and kidney infections and kidney stones; it can reduce inflammation and heal arthritis more effectively than leading medications; it is a cancer preventative and treatment, and it is a natural antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral because it contains lauric acid, and it creates a hostile environment for viruses (Axe, 2015)(Ware, 2015).
Coconut oil also improves memory and brain function; improves energy and endurance; improves digestion and ulcerative colitis; it reduces symptoms of gallbladder disease and pancreatitis; it can improve skin issues such as burns, eczema, dandruff, dermatitis, and psoriasis; it can prevent osteoporosis; improve type 2 diabetes; help you lose weight; help you build muscle; destroy candida and yeast infections; balance hormone levels and so much more (LoGiudice, Bongiorno & Bleakney, 2012)! Take 1 TBSP of coconut oil 1-3x daily. When sick, I will consume plenty of vegetables and bone broth along with it. I love this stuff!
