Three Simple Things You Can Do For Better Health

According to the World Health Organization, “The context of people’s lives ultimately determine their health, and so blaming individuals for having poor health or crediting them for good health is inappropriate.

I agree. That’s a highly accurate way to explain the reality of “health” in our world today. Individuals are unlikely to be able to directly control many of the determinants of health. These determinants might include the following:

  • Income and Social Status
  • Education
  • Physical Environment
  • Employment
  • Social/Family Support
  • Available Health Services
  • Genetics

As you can imagine, many of these factors depend on quite a bit that is simply out of our hands. Sure, we can impact a few of them and work within the bounds of a few others. However, we must admit to ourselves that our availability to any of these is not the same as it might be for someone else.

However, that doesn’t mean we cannot dramatically impact our health. Several things CAN be controlled, and controlling such factors can dramatically impact your wellness outcomes. It’s all about lifestyle and working within the means that we find ourselves in.

For instance, we know that 90% of Type 2 Diabetes and heart attacks, as well as 80% of strokes, are preventable with something as simple as lifestyle changes. Of course, these are just a few dangerous and chronic conditions that can be impacted or even prevented by a lifestyle change. Are you interested in reducing the odds of getting a life-altering chronic condition? Are you ready to take a personal role in your wellness? Then try these three simple lifestyle modifications.

  1. Eliminating and reducing tobacco use
  2. Eating healthy foods with portion control
  3. Increasing regular physical activity

That’s it! It works too. Research has consistently identified these three things as the most likely to reduce the prevalence of chronic conditions, regardless of what you were born into or where you might be in life. The best part is that these are simple things that almost everyone can do.

Please note that it’s NOT about fancy supplementation, expensive gyms, or complex diets. These things can help if done correctly, but REAL health doesn’t start there. REAL health begins with the basics, and the basics are available to almost all of us. Remember, true health is not found… it is created.

So what are you doing to achieve better health?
