Magnesium is Essential for Health

Magnesium is essential for health. Dr. Mercola says that “even glutathione, your body’s most powerful antioxidant that has even been called “the master antioxidant,” requires magnesium for its synthesis (Mercola, 2016).” You can learn more about glutathione by clicking here.

Unfortunately, magnesium deficiency is considered a silent epidemic in research circles, with a whopping 80% of the population being affected. This is because, similar to other conditions, its symptoms make diagnosis difficult. As a result, the condition can sometimes go unrecognized and untreated (enviromedica, 2016).

It makes sense, though, considering where people usually get their magnesium. High-magnesium foods include dark leafy greens, nuts, seeds, fish, avocados, bananas, and so on, not exactly staples in the American diet. Even if you consume these once in a while, there is a good chance you are deficient. One of the best ways to get your magnesium levels up is to supplement.

Accept no substitutes! Not all magnesium supplements are equal. Magnesium chloride (specifically) has a unique healing power on acute viral and bacterial diseases, and it can absorb much better than many other types of magnesium. Some doctors suggest its benefits are drastically understated (Mercola, n.d.). This is because it has been known to cure even polio and diphtheria.

Dr. Raul Vergini, M.D. wrote once that a few grams of magnesium chloride every few hours would clear nearly all acute illnesses (Vergini, 2005). Many doctors have used magnesium chloride orally for a broad spectrum of disorders benefiting from the immune-bolstering effects for many years. While it may not be the “cure-all,” it will surely help the body address some of the underlying issues and help the body fight a little harder.

I have often been asked about the “chloride” part of the equation. As addressed in other articles, we have discovered that chloride plays a vital function in our overall health. However, some are quick to associate chloride with chlorine. Let me clear this up.

Chloride is very different from chlorine. Chlorine is dangerous and does not exist in the free elemental state in nature. Chloride (Cl-) is a common anion found abundantly in nature. As it turns out, chloride salts are essential for sustaining human metabolism and have none of the effects of isolated chlorine.

Dr. Chris Meletis explains it best when he says, “Chloride is an “essential” mineral for humans. It is abundant in ionic trace mineral preparations. It is a major mineral nutrient that occurs primarily in body fluids. Chloride is a prominent negatively charged ion of the blood, where it represents 70% of the body’s total negative ion content (Meletis, 2016).”

If you decide to supplement with magnesium, make sure it is magnesium chloride and dose as directed. While individual capsules are convenient, you can also buy this in bulk online, and it tends to be much cheaper than other store-bought supplements.
